Communication and Information Services

A source of information and opportunities for interaction and dialogue on public participation issues.

CPP Web Site

Links to public participation opportunities, education, training events, conferences, and other resources around the region.

Public Participation Database

The CPP is developing a searchable database in partnership with the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) that will provide public participation information to activists, scholars, public participation professionals, elected officials, and public managers and staff.

Evaluation

Evaluations can be useful in developing overall goals and approaches, identifying the best tools for achieving goals, creating long-term strategies, and informing and improving practice. The CPP can help assess the effectiveness, efficiency, and outcomes of public participation efforts.

Teams For Improving Public Participation Strategies (TIPPS)

A team of public participation professionals and academic faculty who will provide short term, intensive assessments of public participation processes. This is a fee-based service.

Training and Education

Creating opportunities to build basic public participation knowledge and skills among all members of the community in order to increase participation in and the effectiveness of public participation processes.

Graduate Specialization In Public Participation

CPP is designing a professional specialization in public participation. The goal of the specialization is to educate and train leaders in the theories and techniques of public participation. This will be a concentration of five courses that can be pursued within the graduate programs offered through Portland State University's College of Urban and Public Affairs.

Community Education

Working in conjunction with a variety of community groups, the CPP is developing an integrated and comprehensive approach to community-based training and education.

Research

Research and networking opportunities for faculty, practitioners, and students.

Basic Research

Exploring theoretical questions, such as the fundamental principles and values of democratic participation; civic structure; and the role of deliberation.

Applied Research

Exploring questions of practical application, such as the purposes of public participation; its value for managers, citizens, and practitioners; and best practices strategies for implementation and assessment.
